Merl Franklin Sellers '50

Owner and President of Luminous Neon, Inc.

Solid values taught by family and church inspired Merl F. Sellers to come home to work in a business he loved, to help create a stronger community and make Hutchinson a better place in which to live.

Sellers graduated from Hutchinson Community College in 1952. In 1955, he completed a Bachelor of Science in Business at Kansas University. Entering Officers Candidate School and Flight School in the U.S. Navy, he rose to the rank of Lieutenant. While in the Navy, Merl was stationed in Hutchinson and sought a job in sales at Luminous Neon.

His caring and generous spirit developed into a sense of duty to the community. He has served on numerous boards, chaired several foundations and spearheaded many city beautification projects. As a former Mayor of Hutchinson, his generosity and love for his community are visible in improvements to the campus of Hutchinson Community College, Dillon Nature Center and the Carey Park golf course's clubhouse.

Seeing Hutchinson for what it can be and having the expertise to be a successful business owner guarantees Merl Franklin Sellers a special place on the Wall of Honor.
